Re: Obama phenomenon / fashion / hysteria?

^ You actually think Obama will pull US troops out of Iraq do you?

.....that is simply not going to happen. As bad as Iraq is now, it would be a hell of a lot worse, and a far greater threat, if the insurgents (terrorists) get control of it.

2007 was the worst year of violence in Iraq, there were approximately 24,159 civilian deaths ....but lets not forget that 19,000 people were murdered in South Africa in the same year -- there is a lot of bad things happening which the US has no part of. The United States gets a lot of criticism, but it still does a great deal more for peace than any other country.

As for Bush, it has become fashionable to hate Bush, sure, a lot of dumb mistakes have been made by the Bush administration (it is such a pity they didn't listen to Colin Powell) but I don't think Bush has been quite as much of a disaster as he is often portrayed -- I think time will help us put Bush's presidency in proper context.

Also, lets not overlook the fact that Bush has done more to help Africa than any other US president in history.
