MLP is a "flexible" platform meaning the wheelbase , the length and the width and can easily change and key components are shared across the line up in order to reduce testing times and expenses for new models.
Everything from electronics to drivetrains can be interchanged to allow for customized architectures for each model as required.
In other words:
"a set of modular, longitudinal building kits… that are shared among a product family. The modular approach can bring cost savings and enable a quick introduction of variants."
Many other manufacturers are using similar modular architectures like Aston Martin and lately VW and Ford (including Volvo and Mazda).
