Mercedes-Benz didn’t exactly “unveil” the new 2008 GL 550 this morning. In fact it was just sitting there at the back of the stand without anyone really noticing. Well we noticed because this latest version of Mercedes largest SUV has a 5.5-liter, 382 hp V8 with 391 lb.-ft. of torque linked to a 7 speed transmission. That means it can tow 7500 lbs and it means the GL 550 that will compete most closely with luxury SUV’s like the Cadillac Escalade. And speaking of ‘Slade competition, this new GL comes with 21-inch wheels and a big bold grill with a Mercedes three pointed star that must be about 8-inches in diameter.
