Because the actual mirror is so big (Apparently MB had to do this because of these EU regulations), MB had to make the turn lights big so the mirrors look smaller, if that makes any sense.
When I first looked at the spy shots, first thing I noticed was how big the mirrors were.
If you look closely though, I don't really think the whole turn light will flash orange. I think the "triangular" bit on top of the actual indicator is only there to make the mirror appear to be smaller.
