Not really.

Till Q7 launch - which contributed most to the Quattro growth with over 70k units sold in 2006 - BMW was a market leader in AWD premium segment.

Eg. in 2005: approx 280,000 vehicles with xDrive were sold, while Quattro vehicle sales / production reached 219,288 units.



I have no 2006 sales numbers for xDrive. But I'm sure BMW are not lagging behind Audi very much. But with introduction of A5 & Q5 Audi will increase the lead. Also do not forget in some markets Audi offers Quattro models only, while BMW & eg MB offer AWD as an option.
