If my memory serves me correctly, I'm pretty sure the door thunk in the old Benzes was also one of the engineered aspects of the vehicle. An aspect that got overlooked in the cost cutting era of the 90's. Even if it wasn't, and was actually just an inherent characteristic, the need to engineer it into new Benzes probably doesn't arise from the lack of structural integrity or quality, but from the use of lightweight materials?
