Well, it was only a matter of time. German publication Auto Motor und Sport, took a bunch of fast cars to Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track and managed to squeeze a record top speed out of the Bugatti.

Beating the previous 245mph record of the crazy Swedish Koenigsegg CCR, the Veyron’s 402 kmh (249.24 mph) also eclipsed the top speed of the second fastest car in the group, the Lamborghini LP640, which could only manage a ’snail-like’ 340 kmh (210.8 mph). Hot on the Lambo’s heels was the Ferrari 599 GTB with 335 kmh (207.7 mph).

Just as impressive, was the acceleration of the Veyron, which hit 0-100 kmh (62mph) in under 3 seconds!
