With even more emphasize on production / tooling problems. Mind that recent BMW designs have been very complex, and sometimes final execution was a pure production / engineering issue (eg. problems in tooling design). Sometimes it's hard to produce very detailed & high-quality complex (interior & exterior!) designs. Perhaps BMW purchasing officials have been to quickly satisfied with the executed solutions suppliers had offered. Design can work brilliantly on a paper, or in a clay model - yet when it comes to production & tooling the much important details can be lost, and the initial design can be flawed, or even ruined.

Mind that perfect quality & execution usually also depends on part suppliers, and tooling designers!
I completely understand what you are saying, and trust me Total Quality is something no-one can lay claim to have mastered.
But it can attained by paying attention to detail every step of the way.
I am glad the team is taking this approach.
We hope to see much more from the Bavarian machines

No other exterior differences. Unless you count frameless front doors on E81 (and "hidden" B-pillar).

Perhaps some exclusive rims will be offered for E81.

Well...it seems that the rims in the 3dr video are new since we have not seen them before. Probably they will be offered in the 3-door only...but I think the 2+2 seating configuration along with the frameless windows separate it from the 5-dr.

It's a pity however that we did not see rear LED brake & turn signals. I really like the CELIS rear LED though...it is very BMW-like!

As far TQM is concerned...compared with Alfa Romeo, I believe that BMW are doing much better. I have all sorts of rattles and other issues with my current Alfa. Beautiful car to look at and drive...but it rattles! I hope I am right about that...

ENI, my mother has a question for you. Now when the facelift arrive can we expect "1-series before the facelift" to sink in price, meaning, getting cheaper if you buy a used one?

Re: Official pics & info: facelifted BMW 1-series + 3dr version

actually i don't think so Just me, because of personal experience.

we ordered the S60 on 14 July 2004 and the facelift one was availiable (for order) since 13 July 2004. (MY2005). But there was absolutely no defference in prices. I could get the same car, pre and after facelift with the same money. It may changes some time after the time the fc model was availiable, but i am not sure...

Re: Official pics & info: facelifted BMW 1-series + 3dr version

Usually FLs do not affect the resale value of the car. Only new models do. Even facelifts themselves have no extra cost (usually) on the car price...but when a new model is launched its price might go up.

However...you might see some good rebates, better prices, discounts and other incentives in the current 1ers so that dealers can clear their lots to expect the facelifted models. Actually about two months ago the Greek BMW affiliate was giving 5-year free service for the 1er.

I don't think there will be significant drop in used 1er price. Like many have already said: usually the biggest change occurs when new Mk is introduced.

Actually you are very right on this Niko! And let me give you some facts:
As stated above i ordered a Volvo S60 2.0T Kinetic on the 14 of July. The car costed 33.700eur and with some extras i added it reached abour 34.500eur. The new S60 Kinetic (base at that time, before Optimum was added) had exactly what the previous Sport (2nd) edition had and some more features. Before the fc i was going for the base model, for 32.300eur.
If you sum up the cost of the equipment that the kinetic has over the older base model, its exactly the difference between 33.700 and 32.300. See?

And there were some special offers, the cars they had on stock, but these are offers that you can always find no matter if there is a fc or not.

PS. I think you have an Alfa Romeo 147? Can you please PM me your experience and some comments on this car, because a friend wants one and what's better than an owner's review?. And are you planning on getting a 1er?
