Can you tell us what we're the pros and cons of the other cars (a3, sportscoupe, gtc, golf)? Just curious...
Hi Kere,

I've never driven the Audi A3 or new Golf etc. My sister and us were simply considering them and others as her first car.

Basically we narrowed it down to the VW Golf, Mercedes C160 Sportcoupe, BMW 3er Compact and the BMW 1-Series. A mechanic at the Alfa Romeo dealership (we were considering the 147 for her) told us to keep away from them as they're electronically very unreliable and rust easily. At the Opel dealership, we also met an Opel owner who talked about his negative experiences with them, hence we dropped the Opel as well. I should add that we were looking for the best deals, so we looked at new and used cars.

The VW Golf our dealership was selling was a rip off. It was a base 1.4 model with 102-horsepower and the only extras were A/C and nicer wheels. Price? 22,000 Euros. A rip off.

The Mercedes C160 Sportcoupe was an interesting choice, but they were hard to find with an automatic transmission. Buying a Mercedes new was out of the question, so we ended up dumping this car as well.

The BMW 3er Compact was an interesting choice, but I personally found the styling to be unattractive as hell, same with my father. In the end my sister also got sick of the look and dumped it.

In the end, the local BMW dealership was offering us a great deal and 15% discount, so we ended up getting the 118i for her with the necessary options. Price in the end with discounts and luxury car discount was 27,000.

Thanks for sharing your experience! A Golf 1.4 for 22.000 € is just insolent! Our dealer offers a Golf 2.0 TDI "Speed" for about 28.000 € (and this car has Xenons, Navigation, Leather etc.)!

The sad thing was it was a Tageszulassung too! Didn't give you that much of a price advantage either. A true rip-off in other words.
