No, I'm not one of them.
Even if I were, I wouldn't confess.

Regarding CSS, GCF, E90post, bimmerfest, etc.: some info/rumours about BMW are there not because of "leaking" or "babbling internal sources", but by the reason BMW want to deliver them to us.

This week I'll try to find some interesting case studies about such guerilla marketing methods.

Imo, it would be very wise to have a small department handling internet message boards and things like that. They become more and more important for creating an opinion about a certain car/brand......

You answered that q already now, so nevermind

BMW AG communication dept. (or in some BMW unit cases: contracted communication service agencies) has spider programs browsing the net - through blogs, forums, news sites etc. The spider program collects the info within different categories. The people in charge check / read the info - if relevant BMW use them - for marketing or communication (re)action.

Internet is these days heavily used for guerilla marketing purpose: spreading rumours, news, good/bad words about something. BMW use this channel very effectively to push their opinion / message along.

Yes, I'm sure BMW employees are personally posting publicly around the net, but not company / product specific info - since spiders can found them & BMW can take an action against them. When some BMW employee is willing to tell something to a stranger or unauthorized person, the info is a pure rumour made up by him or by BMW misinfo dept - which also spreads rumours inside company via BMW intranet - or something that is already official.

So, don't be fooled that some people like you-know-who are "spies".

i think the best way to spread rumors is via the dealers. They mislead the salesmen from the headquarters. And then, they tell you what they think is classified info...

Re: BMW 1-series variants: Scott26 reports

^I think you mean 3 litre.

Actually Scott26 is wrong (not necesarily his fault falt) but the 1 will get the 3.0 litre turbo when it comes to the U.S. That was made official at the Hawaii BMW DAG meeting. Imagine a 300 hp 1 series....R32, prepare to get smoked...

actually just thought of another thing that was said in that meeting. The 1er will only come to the U.S. in coupe form (and maybe convertable) but not in a hatch, therefore not competing directly with the cooper.
