![]() | Re: BMW 1-series variants: Scott26 reports A 3.2 M3 CSL engine produces 360 hp That s 112.5 hp for 1 liter. So if they make a 2.5 atmo M engine 281hp is possible put on a nice carbon airintake so we have a sound like the E30 M3 dtm cars. Turbo is not for M. M engines should be high revving master pieces. If they bring us a light weight M2 coupe with near 300hp high rev atmo M engine nice LSD on the rear then the first one is sold. I have bought a 130i m sport for now because the thing handles like a dream. Only the 6 cil feels heavier on the nose the 4cil engines (So for an M2 300hp 4cil is better for the handling then a 6cil. ) I have also mounted an LSD to my 130i too make it even better. I can t wait for the M2 coupe. |

They been working all the back since the 70's. BMW and Alpina raced together. BMW has bought tecknology from Alpina. The engine for X5 4.6is is developed by Alpina. You can buy your Alpina at your bmw dealer , you also get the same warranties as BMW. Also the service can be done at your bmw dealer. Unlike other tuners, Alpina keeps the BMW logo. Im sure there are more but this is all I remember at the moment.

112.5 HP/L is an extraordinary achievement. But that 3.2L 360HP engine is a limited production. I can't imagine BMW can put such a delicate engine in a non-CSL car. More high-volume M non-CSL cars have more conservative ratios. Also 281HP is only 16HP more than 130i with 3.0L 265HP I6. I think such a small difference is not acceptable for marketing people: no one would buy a car that costs approx. $10k more than a regular 130i, but having only 16HP more. Especially not in US, which is the main M market. I guess M1/M2 will have at least 295-298HP. And that is impossible to squeeze from any I4 engine without adding a turbo. As Bruhnke said in in iterview for a while ago, M would go also with a turbo if that would mean a better solution. But they would stick to NA as long as possible. That producing a turbo engine wouldn't mean completely dropping the NA engines. That turbo was a good solution, but that they would never produce a supercharged (compressor) engines.

![]() | Re: BMW 1-series variants: Scott26 reports then i am not buying one. What makes a M engine is high revving atmo. With a nice intake sound. If they can t handle 300hp with a inline 4 than they should go the inline 6 route. Maybe i should buy porsche s then. Turbo s are only nice in 4wd rally cars or diesels. |

If you want an I6, buy a Z4 M Coupe with I6 3.0L 343HP. ![]()

But I still doubt M devision will outsource possible turbe engine engineering to AVL. Alpina as a development partner seams more possible. But you never know.
