Not only does this not make sense cost wise for the company, but also America is extremely power hungry when it comes to hp.
Scott dont know anything, things changes all the time. Whats weird is that 325i in sweden(europe) has 2.5 liters engine while in US 325i has a 3.0 liters engine, the same as 330i.

US
325i = 3.0 liters
330i = 3.0 liters

Sweden (europe)
325i = 2.5 liters
330i = 3.0 liters

BMW har doing strange things sometimes.

Why do you say that the 325i has a 3.0i engine in the States Just_me?

why? we discussed it before and apparently 325i has 3.0 liters just like 330i but with less horsepowers. it shows that BMW are making some strange decisions sometimes.

Re: BMW 1-series variants: Scott26 reports

This I didn't know! Apologies... where've I been?

It's even the same engine as the 330i just with a different induction, exhaust and ECU systems detuned to produce the same as the 325i in Europe: 160 kW.

Maybe lower US octane RON precluded the use of the 2.5 litre N52 six?

Scott's already reported I4 Turbo is in the plan.

BMW is able to get 1/4 power increase with adding a turbo charge.
535d with 272HP was developed from initial 530d with 218HP. -> +25% HP
335i with ~ 330HP will be developed from 330i 258HP -> + ~28% HP

So, if they use 2.0L I4 175HP from 320si, the new I4 turbo could produce 220 - 225HP, or ~190HP if developed from 150HP I4.

But it sounds impossible to make just under 300HP M1/M2 from an I4 NA engine, even if it is a 2.5L. Unless it's a 2.2 - 2.5L I4 turbo developed with help oh Alpina GmbH

They are.
But they surely wouldn't miss the opportunity to get some know-how from Alpina, who have a lot of experiences with developing sporty turbo engines - developed from standard NA BMW engines.
Scott mentioned the new 3.0L I6 petrol turbo was developed with development input from Alpina. So it's possible they will collaborate on I4 turbo as well.

the engine for X5 4.6is is designed by Alpina so I wont be surprised if they work together again.
