Re: ***Preview: My Sister's Possibly Soon-To-Be BMW 118i***

I'm not a big fan of the 1er but that must be the best looking one I have ever seen. Is there a possible to order one with just the M-package without the enhanced suspension?

there used to be an aerodynamic package but its no longer availble, now there is only the M-package.

aerodynamic package (M-package looks better IMO).

Is there any reason why they did away with it?

Not at all true. For one, I don't think the Volvo has RWD....you don't have to push that car 'real hard' at all to find out about it's amazing handling.

for the average driver a C30 is more than enough. I tried the C30 on some very curvy roads, the handling is good, truth of the day. Since MB is RWD cars as well, Im certain Caw is going to have hard time saying which car handles the best if he compare to 1er the latest C-class. I doubt Caw is doing advanced driving when he tries out a car.

I don't think so, at least from BMW!

You may be able to buy the M pack separately and retrofit it to your car! Interestingly, I believe in the UK, having the M pack actually increases the insurance bill!

BTW guys, what's the definition of good handling? Because I have only pushed one car, our golf and it just understeers and you can hear the tires screeching and feel through the steering wheel the front tires loosing grip. Now if the golf was a good handling car, what would be different?

Personally I would go with manual becuase I find the manual gearboxes in bmw to be one of the best gearboxes. My Mums gearbox is tight and precise with a sporty feeling, one of the reasons why I like driving BMW's.

What kind of automatic is it in the 1er, 5 or 6 gears? Newly developed automatic from BMW?
I want to hear your impression on the automatic when you tried the car.

I have driven that exact same car a couple of times actually. I must say that I had TONS of fun with that little Bimmer. Amazing handling, very fast through the corners!!!!!

Let us know what you as big Mercedes wizard think of this little car. I am curiour what you think about the steering and handling compared to all the MB cars you drive....
Thanks.

Same here. Once we get it, I am eager to try it out and compare it to my experiences with Benzes. You guys will be the first to know!

Have you driven the new 118i? The 1-Series recently got a facelift and BMW canned the old 118i engine.

You're correct about the everyday handling. Audi, BMW and Mercedes these days usually perform pretty close. It's when they're pushed hard where the differences come apparent.

I'll push the car hard once the engine is properly broken in. My dad and I today discussed the situation again. It looks like we're really going to order this car.

Not to go off topic but better handling is better control and more precision. The better a car handle, the more you can push it without losing control. It is like explaining what it feels like to have sexy, almost impossible. You have to experience it.
