135 is going to be the next bargain performance car (if you don't want the usual WRXs and Evos). There are already tuned 335s with 350+hp. A 1 series with that kind of power and M handling is very tempting.

Any idea how much the 130 hatch back weighs?

Sure wounds like an N54 I6. The exhaust sound is quite unique, flat but sonorous and muscular. Actually, this afternoon I was walking by a 335i sedan and listened as it drove by. Gotta get my hands on a BMW product with that engine!

I have dropped in to have a look at the facelift with wood trim and leather, interior feels much better in the facelift, but the pre-facelift model, I told my friend who is looking for a A3/1er/Mini sized car, and first feeling when she got inside was "is this a BMW?" Not dissing the 1er, if the 3door would come here I really would think about trading my e46 for a 120i, i just love its steering and suspension, and the facelift transforms the interior back to a real bmw.

But yea, the Mini dealer was really trying hard to sell his Minis while taking sales out of its colleagues at BMW. I said the 1er is rwd and i like it, he said "oh you are strange, most people prefer front wheel drive".. but i must honestly say that it's quite rare to see young people, for example university students to drive the 1er, there are much more Minis, A3s, R32s, Golf GTIs.. my friend just bought a VW Eos 3.2L without even taking a single look at the 130i. For myself, even IF the 1series doesn't look so great or young, i think its superior driving characteristics will win preference over others.

That is exactly the point I was making before, the 1er hatch has a serious image problem -- it's not a cool car -- and it is a feminine car.

The coupé will likely attract more young male buyers IMO -- it just has more street cred.

I think the car looks too tall, and too short. To each his own.

But isn't BMW an image young people would want? Surely it can be as 'cool' as the A3, GTI etc?

Yeah it is curious that the 1er doesn't seem to attract the same kind of buyers as the GTI. But ask yourself James, what would you prefer to own, a 1er hatch or a 1er coupé?

Even if you think the coupé looks disproportional, don't you think it is ten times more desirable than the hatch? -- why is that?
