look at the early CS1 (With a roof) digitally manipulated and there you get the complete look of the new Coupe. That above looks similar to the 1er CST which follows the formula of the 1600/2002 Touring models and remains 3drs, But although conceived - The CST is yet to get the green light if the Coupe and Cabrio is a hit then we could see this line up emulating the 2002.

Like I said: the rear on this CGI is too short & too tall (boot lid is more flat IRL, not so raised; and longer). The rear on this CGI indeed look a bit like a Shooting Brake proposal (E84), while the real E82 Coupe has much more sedan-ish appearance - resembling classic shape of 00 / 02 -series.

Couldn't find a CS1 chop with roof or even an official press pic with the canvas up, so I made a quick comparison jpeg with the latest spy shots from sweden and a press pic of CS1 from almost the same angle:



I think the guys in munich did a really good job in evolving the sharp looks of the CS1 into a production ready niche car. I'm not too sure about the coupe, but the convertible will sell like hot cakes

Huckfeldt's CGI is still the the most representative - regarding the roof line & the general shape of the rear. The details are off, though (different rear light shape & graphics, license plate holder, different rear bumper, side skirt, etc).

But the CGI is giving you a pretty good idea of how E82 silhouette looks IRL. Also the "shoulder line meets the rear" area is VERY representative.



Caution: larger-than-life wheels on CGI, and a weird shooting angle distort proportions a bit. IRL the side profile looks sleek & long.

That is going to be hot, especially in convertible form. A car of this size with the 3L turbo engine is going to be a real scream to drive! I just hope the front end design is changed some from the current 1-Series, its ugly.

Not as much as you wish for.

Front is a bit different, but still VERY similar. Due to heavy part sharing.

Definitely do not expect E90 vs E92 kind of difference - not in this generation of 1er / 2er. But in the next generation expect separate models do differ a bit more.

My biggest problem with this 1er part sharing is the fact that the bonnet is too small for a BMW coupe now. 3er (E46 coupe, E92), Z4, 6er, Z3, Z8....they all have a very long sleek bonnet. The 2er coupe sadly hasn't.
